Thursday’s (Sept. 3) edition of Fair Roundup features a results story from the Van Wert (OH) Fair.

Trio of track marks posted at Van Wert Fair

Van Wert, OH — The Van Wert County Fair in Van Wert, Ohio, opened up its three-day harness racing meet with nine races on Thursday evening. The track was in excellent shape with two track records broken and one tied.

Hi Hopes Cruiser (Yankee Cruiser-Odds On Elaine) broke the track record for 2-year-old colt pacers in the first division of the freshman colt pace with a mile in 2:01. Duke Sugg trains and drives the colt for Ivan Sugg and Robert and Randy Hutchison. The second split went to Twitty’s Havin Fun (Full Of Fun-Blister’s Magic) in 2:04.3. Tom Hope drove the gelding for trainer Tim Reck. Ronny Richards owns along with Tim and Carol Reck.

Booze Cruiser (Yankee Cruiser-Sassy Pants) captured the lone division of the 3-year-old colt pace with a mile in 2:01.4. Duke Sugg piloted the gelding for trainer Jim Mulinix with Miller’s Stable, Inc. and Dan Murray paying the bills.

Rompaway Beau (Chip Chip Hooray-Rompaway Stacey) equaled the track record for 3-year-old gelding trotters with a mile in 2:01.2 in the lone division of the sophomore colt trot. Don Harmon trains and drives the gelding for Rompaway Farms, Inc.

Beehomeontime broke the track record for older mare trotters with a mile in 2:00.4 in a conditioned trot. Jim Mulinix trains and drives the mare and also co-owns her with John Willis.
