Trotters in action at Great Stoneboro Fair

Mercer County, PA — The Great Stoneboro Fair in Mercer County, Pa., hosted 15 stakes events on Sunday afternoon for 2-year-old trotters and pacers.

Luscious Al was one of five winners on Sunday for Roger Hammer.

Stately’s Revenge (The Panderosa) started the day with a win in the PA Sire Stake freshman colt pace, scoring in 2:03 for driver Dave Brickell. Trainer Bob Krenitsky owns the gelding with his wife, Barbara. In the second division, Luscious Al was a winner in 2:02.1 with a last half in :59.1. Owned, trained and driven by Roger Hammer, the Arturo gelding has won eight of 15 starts. Hammer returned to win the final split behind Half Moon Bay, a Western Hanover colt he owns with Todd Schadel. The winning time was 2:02.3 with a last half of :58.1.

In the 2-year-old Quaker Trot, Zoom A Rail won his third straight race, lowering his lifetime mark to 2:07.1. Elbert Kohler owns and trains the Donerail gelding, while Steve Schoeffel picked up the catch-drive.

In the 2-year-old Quaker Pace, Jordon Miller guided Milano Grande (Arturo) to the win in 2:04.4. It was the sixth win in nine starts this year for the filly, who is owned by Michael Grande and trained by JC Miller.

Three groups of 2-year-old colt trotters took to the track next in PA Sire Stake competition, with Tommaso giving Hammer his third winning drive of the afternoon in the first split. The Tom Ridge gelding, owned by the Dunn Stable and trained by Boots Dunn, covered the mile in 2:09.2 after making an early break. In the second division, Tag The Lady (Tagliabue) was an easy winner, trotting in 2:08.3 for trainer/driver Marty Wollam. The gelding is owned by Patricia Wollam, Dennis Sheehan and Charles Zeune. Wollam then captured the final division with Summer Heat, an SJ’s Caviar colt. Owned by the Acadia Farms and Polichena Racing Stable, Summer Heat trotted in a life-best 2:06.3.

In the first PASS 2-year-old filly trot, Caviar’s Dancer got up in the final stride in a three-horse photo for trainer/driver Jamie Coffy. The daughter of SJ’s Caviar won for the third time this year and set a new lifetime mark with a 2:05 effort. Dr. William Solomon is the winning owner. Keystone Fling had an easy time in the second division, going wire-to-wire in 2:05.4 for trainer/driver Steve Schoeffel. The Donerail filly is owned by Stephen Lander and Virginia and Kathy Schoeffel. The final filly trot was captured by Nine Gold Coins and driver Fred Uber. The pacing-bred filly, by Luck Of The Gold, scored in 2:08.2 for owner/trainer Les Wright.

In the first division of the state-bred 2-year-old filly pace, Budgirls Hanover won for the sixth time this year. Owned by Randy Ringer and trained by JC Miller, the daughter of No Pan Intended paced in 2:05.3. In the second division, Anxiety Hanover won for Hammer in 2:04.3, holding on in a photo finish. A daughter of The Panderosa, Anxiety Hanover is owned and trained by Hammer as well. Schoeffel picked up his third driving win of the day in the next division, guiding SJ’s Blissful Lady to her first career win. The Blissful Hall filly paced in 2:04.1, going wire-to-wire for trainer Terry Altmeyer and S&J Racing LLC. Hammer’s fifth winning drive of the day came in the final division, as he guided My Gal Mykenna to her sixth win in 11 starts. Owned by Hammer and Nevin Gilbert, the Real Artist filly paced in 2:04.2.

The 3-year-olds will be in action at Stoneboro on Monday, with a 1 p.m. post.
