Fall Review Races at Springfield rescheduled

by Josh Carter

Springfield, IL — While the first installment of the Fall Review races at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield on Sept. 30 was a rousing success with more than 100 horses going to post, heavy rains forced the cancelation of the second slate of races on Saturday (Oct. 7).

Fall Review races are now set to take place on Saturday (Oct. 14).

Post time for the first race will be at noon. Admission and parking are free. While these races are non-wagering events, a pick-a-winner contest will be held on each race where fans can win prizes for correctly selecting the winning racehorse. Concessions will be available in the grandstand from Taft’s Fine Foods.

Races are restricted to Illinois conceived and foaled horses. There will be divisions for 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds and older horses (4-year-olds and up). Divisions will be split by sex where the entries allow, but may be combined where necessary. Purses are estimated at $5,000 per heat. Fields will be limited to a maximum size of seven. Purses will be split 50-25-12-8-5 to the top five finishers, with any horse finishing sixth or seventh receiving a stipend of $100. A $40 starting fee will apply for each horse racing.

Entries may be made online through the United States Trotting Association online platform (www.ustrotting.com) or by calling LeAnn Shinn at 618.783.2589. Entries close at 10 a.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 11).

Special thanks goes out to the Illinois Department of Agriculture and the Standardbred Breeders Fund Advisory Board for making these races possible. Don’t miss the last chance to see live harness racing in Illinois in 2017.
