Fast Del speeds to Sire Stakes win at Scarborough

Scarborough, ME — The Maine Sire Stakes circuit returned to Scarborough Downs on Sunday (July 21) as the 2-year-old colt paciers took center stage, racing in three splits for purses in excess of $10,500 per division.

Fast Del with driver Gary Mosher scored in Maine Sire Stakes action on Sunday at Scarborough Downs.

Fast Del posted the fastest stakes clocking of the afternoon, stopping the timer in 1:59.2, establishing a maiden standard, with driver Gary Mosher calling the shots for trainer Eric Bickmore. Maynard B (Greg Bowden) was second and B All That (Run Cushing) was third.

The win was one of three on the day for Mosher. Fast Del, a son of Fast Company, is owned by the Ben Bill & Will Stable of Carmel, Maine.

In other stakes news, Dansan Clyde remained undefeated in stakes competition, grabbing his second consecutive state-bred win, timed in 2:02.2 with driver Shawn Thayer sitting in the sulky for owner/trainer Dana Childs of Saco, Maine. Cracked Ice (Wallace Watson) garnered runner-up honors, while Double D Deluxe grabbed show dough for owner/trainer/driver Donald Dickison.

In the third split. David The Saint saw his two-race win streak come to an end as the upset-minded Alittlebitcountry picked off the bettor’s choice late in the mile. David Ingraham engineered the winning driving strategy for owner/trainer James Smallwood of Windsor, Maine. The mile timed in 2:03.1. The win was one of three on the program for Ingraham. David The Saint (Mark Athearn) held on for second, while Zip It (Kevin Switzer) claimed third.

Sire Stakes racing resumes Thursday afternoon (July 25) at Scarborough Downs as the 3-year-old trotters roar back into action at the seaside oval. Post time is 4 p.m.
