Wilkes-Barre, PA — Fearless Diablo used a powerful closing kick to capture the $30,000 final of the Bobby Weiss Series for 3- and 4-year-old colts, horses and geldings on the pace on Tuesday night (April 17) at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.

Leaving from post position six in a field of nine, Fearless Diablo settled in seventh around the first turn as Three Artist took the field to the quarter in a quick :26.4. The pace stayed hot as Midas Blue Chip took over the lead at the three-eighths mark. In the front stretch, driver Corey Callahan, making a cameo appearance at Pocono for trainer Dylan Davis, tipped Fearless Diablo to the outside and picked up cover from Ideal Champ.

Midas Blue Chip kept the pace hot, hitting the half in :54.4 and three-quarters in 1:23.1. Ideal Champ came up alongside the leader on the final turn, while Fearless Diablo spun out three-wide to get a clear look.

The 4-year-old stallion by Art Major easily kicked his cover and sped by the leaders to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:51. Ideal Champ settled for second while Bet On The Law picked up the show.

Fearless Diablo, owned by Davis and Michael Casalino, won for the sixth time in 11 races this season. His victory pushed his lifetime earnings to $55,335.

The Bobby Weiss Series, held in honor of Pocono’s longtime track superintendent who retired after the 2011 racing season, will continue with $30,000 finals on Wednesday and Friday.
