Winbak Farm Yearling Manager Jim Ladwig (gesturing to horse’s foot, partially obscured) provided instruction in evaluating conformation in a Standardbred yearling.
In a morning session, students from New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut learned the risks, rewards and costs of various types of horse ownership, as well as how to lay out a business plan and choose a trainer. After a barbecue lunch provided by the sales company, students learned strategies for selecting a yearling and how to read a catalog page.
Jim Ladwig, yearling manager at Winbak Farm, provided hands on instruction in conformation evaluation, using a colt and filly from the Winbak consignment. He also provided some insight in what to watch for in sales videos.
All students received a Hoof Beats subscription and Pathway credit, courtesy of the USTA. They will also be provided with follow up assistance as requested.
