Fifty-eight nominated to the Pepsi North America Cup

Toronto, ON — Woodbine Entertainment Group today announced that 58 3-year-old pacers have been nominated to the 33rd edition of the Pepsi North America Cup.

The C$1 million Pepsi North America Cup, the richest race in Canadian harness racing, will be contested on Saturday (June 18) at Mohawk Racetrack.

The group of 58 eligible 3-year-olds is led by O’Brien Award winner Control The Moment.

The Brad Maxwell trainee won eight of nine starts as a rookie, including the $513,750 Metro Pace, for earnings of $347,757. Control The Moment sports a sub-1:50 lifetime mark, as he captured the Metro Pace in 1:49.4.

Dan Patch Award winner Boston Red Rocks also headlines the list of nominees. The Steve Elliott trainee finished off his 2-year-old campaign with victories in the Breeders Crown at Woodbine and the Governor’s Cup at The Meadowlands. Boston Red Rocks won four of nine starts, while never finishing off the board, for earnings of $579,205.

Ontario Sires Stakes stars Betting Line (1:51.4s-$411,675), Nvestment Bluechip (1:51.1s-$280,494) and Voracity (1:51.2s-$227,781) are all eligible to the Cup, while New York Sire Stakes champion Travel Playlist (1:49.2s-$252,570) is also one of the 58 nominees.

Sustaining payments to the Pepsi North America Cup are due March 15, April 15 and May 16. Eliminations for the Pepsi North America Cup are scheduled for Saturday (June 11).

Nominations have also been collected for several major WEG stakes events. World champion Southwind Frank headlines a group of 77 3-year-old trotters nominated to the C$700,000 Canadian Trotting Classic. O’Brien Award winner Caprice Hill and Dan Patch Award winner Broadway Donna are two of 98 3-year-old trotting fillies nominated to the C$400,000 Elegantimage. Superstar pacing fillies L A Delight and Pure Country lead a group of 63 nominees to the C$480,000 Fan Hanover for 3-year-old pacing fillies.

The nominations are also in for the 2-year-old Fall Four Stakes. The C$565,000 Governor’s Cup for 2-year-old pacers has attracted 199 nominees, while 200 2-year-old pacing fillies have been nominated to the C$425,000 Three Diamonds. The C$525,000 Valley Victory for 2-year-old trotters received 185 nominations, while 184 2-year-old trotting fillies compile the list of nominees to the C$465,000 Goldsmith Maid.
