Fight Song leads Thursday’s buys during fourth session of Lexington Selected Yearling Sale

Lexington, KY — Fight Song, a trotting colt by Kadabra out of Fortunes Of Fables, was purchased for $72,000 by David Anderson and John Fielding to lead Thursday’s buys during the fourth session of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale at the Fasig-Tipton Sales Pavilion.

A total of 169 horses sold Thursday for $3.70 million and average of $21,917. Last year’s record-setting sale saw 168 yearlings gross $4.58 million and average $27,268. In 2018, the gross was $3.69 million for 159 horses, an average of $23,258.

Overall, this year’s pandemic-impacted sale has totaled $36.6 million for 648 horses, an average of $56,495. Last year, the fourth session pushed the sale above $40 million in gross for the first time in its history, with 633 horses totaling $43.5 million. The average was $68,735. Through four sessions in 2018, the gross was $37 million for 586 horses and the average was $63,148.

On Cloud Seven, a colt by Chapter Seven out of Dream Baby Dream, topped Thursday’s sale report at $75,000 to Kentuckiana Farms, but was RNA, leaving Fight Song as the session’s top horse to change hands.

Fight Song is a half-brother to stakes winner Fade Into You from the family of Grand Circuit winners Feed Your Head and Toss Out, who earned more than $1 million competing in North America and Europe. Second dam Flawless Bluestone won a 2005 Hambletonian Oaks elimination and finished third in the final. Fight Song was bred by Bluestone Farms and Fredericka Caldwell. He was consigned by Cane Run Farm.

The colt was followed on the sale list by two $65,000 purchases, trotting filly Bethereinaprosecco and trotting colt Unity In One.

Bethereinaprosecco, by Bar Hopping out of Thankful Reward, was purchased by JB Racing. She is Thankful Reward’s first foal. Bethereinaprosecco’s fourth dam, Hall of Famer Country Kay Sue, produced Horse of the Year and Hall of Famer CR Kay Suzie and near-millionaire CR Renegade. She was bred and consigned by Kentuckiana Farms.

Unity In One, by Cantab Hall out of Southwind Adele, was purchased by Jenny Melander. He is a half-brother to stakes winner She Rocks Kemp and his family includes stakes winner Southwind Avenger as well as Hall of Famer Nan’s Catch, the dam of Horse of the Year and Hall of Famer Moni Maker. He was bred by Kemppi Stables Oy and Suojalampi Stable. He was consigned by Hunterton Sales Agency.

Muscle Hill continued to lead trotting stallions in gross and average, at $6.49 million and $132,510 for 49 horses. Captaintreacherous topped pacing stallions in both categories, at $2.85 million and $98,379 for 29 horses.
