Fighting Evil overcomes post eight, upsets in Meadows feature

Washington, PA — Fighting Evil endured a contested opening quarter and two late challenges to pull off an 8-1 upset in Wednesday’s (June 12) feature at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, a $15,900 distaff conditioned pace.

Heading to the front from post eight, Fighting Evil was parked in a lively :27 first quarter when Always Gonna B You would not release her. She made the point for Jeremy Indof but was confronted late by the first-over Be My Rose N and Kat in that one’s tow. The 6-year-old daughter of Sweet Lou-Evil Fight dug deep and triumphed in 1:51.3, a half length better than Kat, with Be My Rose N third.

Jack Smith trains Fighting Evil, who now boasts a career bankroll of $284,523, for Shannon DePinto and Howard Taylor.

Ronnie Wrenn Jr. piloted four winners on the 13-race card.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Thursday (June 13), when the program features a pair of carryovers: $266.80 in the early pentafecta (race four) and $1,490.06 in the Pick-5 (races 9-13). First post is 12:45 p.m.
