Campbellville, ON — The 2016 Mohawk meet is set to close Monday evening (Nov. 7) and there will be zero drama in the race for top driver and top trainer.
On Saturday evening (Nov. 5), Sylvain Filion and Richard Moreau were recognized as leading driver and trainer, respectively, during the 2016 meet.
Filion leads all drivers with 190 wins entering Monday’s final card of the meet. Trevor Henry sits second in the standings with 143 victories.
Filion’s large lead in the wins category is topped by his impressive advantage in the earnings category. The Milton, Ontario, resident has driven the winners of more than C$5.1 million during the Mohawk meet, C$2.1 million more than Henry (C$3 million).
Over on the training side, Moreau enters the final card of the Mohawk meet with 93 victories, 36 wins ahead of nearest rival Carmen Auciello.
Moreau’s stable has earned more than C$1.8 million this season at Mohawk, which is second only to Jimmy Takter’s earnings of C$2 million.
Filion and Moreau’s strong numbers during the Mohawk meet have them well-ahead to capture their second consecutive WEG driving and training titles.
An 11-race card will wrap up the 2016 Mohawk meet Monday. Filion has 10 drives on the card, while Moreau has five horses scheduled to compete.
