Hamburg, NY — Filly’s Victory and driver Ken Holliday used a different approach, but the results were still the same in the featured $8,500 Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Buffalo Raceway on Wednesday night (March 21).

The 5-year-old daughter of Jenna’s Beach Boy posted her fifth win of the year for owner Betty Tauber of East Brunswick, N.J., in 2:00 over a track rated “good”.

Filly’s Victory was a 2:00 winner for Ken Holliday in the Buffalo feature.

Leaving from the extreme outside in the field of six, Filly’s Victory and Holliday had to settle in last, as there was a mad scramble for the lead between Catch The Dragon (Vern Smith) and Be My Valentine (Kevin Cummings). Catch The Dragon won the early battle to the quarter-mile station clocked in :29.2, but would eventually lose the war and finish fifth.

Filly’s Victory and Holliday caught some live cover going down the stretch for the first time and by the time they hit the three-quarter mark in 1:29.4, they had a 1-1/2 length lead on eventual third place finisher Rosie’s Sweetie and reinsman Keith Kash, Jr. She’s Ruffstuff and driver Jim Morrill, Jr. finished strongly in the lane to finish second.

The $4,250 share of the winning purse put Filly’s Victory’s 2007 bankroll at $23,200 and $115,682 lifetime. She paid $5.20 to win going off as the favorite in the betting. Sherri Holliday is the trainer.
