Batavia, NY — Points will be at a premium during the third and final leg of the Henry Tojj Claiming Series, to be contested on Wednesday night (Nov. 7) at Batavia Downs Casino.

The top eight point leaders make the $27,000 Tojj final on Nov. 17; the next eight make the $10,000 consolation.

On Wednesday, all horses in the Tojj series will be eligible to be claimed for $8,000 (plus allowances). There are five divisions carded and each division is worth $7,000 in purse money.

“So far the Tojj series has resulted in 11 claims,” Racing Secretary Joe Zambito said. We expect the claiming box to be very active come Wednesday.”

The Tojj series is for horses that have started for $5,000 or less in 2012 and made at least one start at Batavia Downs during the summer-fall meet.

The current point leaders after two legs with 75 points each are Vasvixen N and Answer The Bell. Vasvixen N, who will have the services of Shawn Gray, drew the rail in the 11th race while Answer The Bell has taken the week off.

Racing in every leg is not required. No horse has swept both legs.

The next tier with 62 points are D J Supreme (John Cummings, Jr.), who will compete in race 11 and Play Of The Day (Shawn Gray), who will face the starter in race 5.

Both competing in race 11 and deadlocked with 58 points are Whatsthurraymurray (Dan Noble) and Marthe My Dear. Square John (Ray Fisher Jr.), race 1, and Looks R Deceiving, (Robert Verney) race 10, also have 58 points.

Burl Hanover (Jack Rice) with 51 points is all alone in ninth and is currently the first alternate for the final. He’ll be looking for more points in the opener.

Points are awarded as follows: 50 points for a win, 25 points for a second, 12 for a third, eight for a fourth and five for a fifth. All other starters get one point.

America’s oldest lighted harness track is currently racing every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night. Post time is 6:25 p.m.
