First condition sheet available for Rosecroft Winter-Spring meet

Fort Washington, MD — The first condition sheet for the 2014 Rosecroft Winter-Spring race meet is now available online at www.rosecroft.com.

A total overnight purse schedule of more than $70,000 per day will be offered, including a 15 percent bonus on earnings for any Maryland owned, sired, trained or foaled horse that finishes first through fifth in an overnight race during the meet.

The track’s 65th anniversary race meet will kick off with a 27-date Winter-Spring meet that runs March 8 through June 7, with racing every Tuesday and Saturday evening with a new 6:40 p.m. post time.

Horses owned 100 percent by Virginia residents (or partnerships consisting of 100 percent Maryland-Virginia ownership) will qualify for racing preference after Maryland owned (100 percent), sired, trained or foaled horses. The new preference was added at the request of the Cloverleaf Standardbred Owners Association.

“Virginia horsemen have historically supported Rosecroft and face a lack of racing opportunities this time of the year. Our members felt an experiment during this meet with this preference was the right thing to do,” said Tom Cooke, CSOA president.

In addition, all horses finishing sixth through ninth in overnight races will receive a $100 starter bonus.

Qualifiers will be held Saturday (March 1) at 11 a.m. with the track open for training until 3 p.m. Entries will be accepted between 8 and 10 a.m. by the Rosecroft racing office at 301.567.4401 or 301.567.4435.

Any horse that last started at Rosecroft in December 2013 will not be subject to the 45-day qualifying rule for their first start in 2014 (or through April 1), as long as they were not put on the qualifying list in their last pari-mutuel start. For all other horses a 45-day qualifying standard will be in effect up through April 1, when it will go to a 30-day qualifying rule.

The racing office draw schedule will be Wednesday for Saturday race cards and Thursday for Tuesday race cards. Entries will be accepted each day starting at 8 a.m. Scratch time will be 9 a.m. the day following the draw.

Horsemen are also reminded to submit their 2014 racing application to the race office as soon as possible. Race entries will not be accepted on any horses who have not been previously submitted for approval by the racing office. Racing applications are available at www.rosecroft.com under the Horsemen section.
