Campbellville, ON — Ake Svanstedt, the leading trainer in Sweden for many years, will make his first 2014 appearance in the Ontario Sires Stakes program Tuesday evening (July 29) at Mohawk.

Svanstedt will start the 2-year-old trotting colt One Direction in the first of two C$105,000 OSS Gold divisions at the Campbellville, Ontario oval. It will be the first pari-mutuel start for the Deweycheatumnhowe colt owned by breeder Ernst Gerbaulet of Germany. The colt is the first foal from Angelina Chip, a full sister to $1.1 million winner Adrian Chip.

One Direction comes into the contest off two qualifying efforts at the Meadowlands, the most recent on July 12 which he won in 1:59.2. Svanstedt drove in those two races but will entrust his charge to Jack Moiseyev on Tuesday night when the colt will leave from post two in race three.

Svanstedt moved to the U.S. from his native Sweden, where he was a leading driver and trainer for many years, last year. His stable immediately made an impact this year thanks to the exploits of the incredible Sebastian K, a winner of $2.6 million lifetime. The 8-year-old became the fastest trotter of all time with a 1:49 win at Pocono last month. He has six wins and a second in seven starts since coming to North America.

Tuesday’s OSS contest is the second Gold event for this division this year and the three winners from the opening round are all slated to compete. Muscle Up The Goal, a winner in the first test, starts in the same event as One Direction. The Muscle Mass colt trained by Chris Beaver has post seven with Chris Christoforou at the lines.

In the second test Tuesday night, race five, two of the opening round winners, Dont Rush and A Little More Love, will square off from opposite ends of the starting gate. The former colt starts from the rail with trainer/driver/owner/breeder Dustin Jones in the bike.

“This division is just getting going but so far I think there are several well matched colts but I really like my guy,” noted Jones.

A Little More Love, a winner in the first Gold in 2:00.2, has post 10 with Randy Waples aboard as usual for trainer Bob McIntosh, who co-owns with Dave Boyle. The Kadabra son has a win and two seconds in three outings so far in his rookie season.
