Flying Instructor was a winner for Corey Callahan in 1:54.2.

The second division on the card pitted last year’s $100,000 DSBF final winners in an early showdown in the second leg of Delaware stakes action. Last week, both Gary and Barbara Iles’ Shaving Mug and Legacy Racing of Delaware, Niel Gargiulo, Nanticoke Racing and Louie Paglierani’s Flying Instructor drew into separate divisions and each won impressively. This time however, Flying Instructor ($2.40, Corey Callahan) flexed his muscle as the horse to beat with a 1:54.2 triumph.

Flying Instructor assumed command at the quarter-mile from Shaving Mug and never looked back in his three length win. Shaving Mug held second. Trained by Wayne Givens, Flying Instructor is a Badlands Hanover colt that has now won 10 of 18 career races.

Roland Wainright’s Sambad ($2.10, Brad Hanners) won the first division in 1:56.2. The Joe Hundertpfund-trainee and Badlands Hanover gelding notched his fourth career win with a stubborn first over trip.

The third division went to Legacy Racing of Delaware and Sharon White’s Three Mints ($21, Allan Davis) in 1:54.1. The Three Olives colt completed a three win night for trainer Wayne Givens after a wire-to-wire, upset win. Favorite Its Outta Here attempted a quarter pole move towards the half-mile and was rebuffed by Three Mints, who won easily over Chizzled In Stone. Its Outta Here held third.

The top point earners in the DSBF events will return to compete in $100,000 finals and $20,000 consolation events on July 26.
