by Marv Bachrad, for Dover Downs

Dover, DE — Foiled Again, the all-time leading money winning horse in the sport, will meet Mel Mara, Dancin Yankee and five other rivals in Monday’s (Nov. 14) $30,000 Preferred Open Handicap Pace while Little Ben, last week’s winner of that event, heads the field in the $27,500 Delaware Special on the same card.

A five-time winner this season, Weaver Bruscemi, JJK and Burke Racing Stable’s Foiled Again, a winner of nearly $7.5 million in purses, takes on world champion Mel Mara, who defeated fellow world champion and another member of the field in Dancin Yankee, two weeks ago over the very same oval.

Trained by Ron Burke, Foiled Again will leave from post position seven in the evening’s 10th race with Tony Morgan in the bike and is 4-1 on the morning line.

Corey Callahan and Mel Mara will begin pacing right alongside the former Horse of the Year from post position seven. The stallion is listed at 3-2 for owners Robert Cooper, J&T Silva Stables and conditioner Dylan Davis.

Guided by Tim Tetrick, Dancin Yankee, draws just to the inside of his rivals and will start from post position five. Owned by Richard Lombardo and L&J Racing, the 8-year-old son of Yankee Cruiser is 7-2 after the initial race draw.

The rest of the field consists of local favorite and world champion, Just A Jolt, who is racing for Janet Hudson, is trained by Jim King Jr. and is teamed with driver Vic Kirby (post position four, 7-1); Handsome Henry K (post position three, Andrew McCarthy, Doug Lewis, 12-1); American Rage (post position two, Montrell Teague, Bill Mac Kenzie, 12-1) and Cajon Lightning (post position one, Art Stafford Jr., Eric Ell, 25-1) and recent New Zealand import Te Kawau N (post position six, Pat Berry, Robert Bresnahan, 12-1).

The first $27,500 Delaware Special of the meet is led by Janet Hudson and JoAnn Looney-King’s Little Ben (post position four, Vic Kirby, Jim King Jr., 3-1), The Wiz Kids Stable’s Golden Gun (post position five, Pat Berry, Jeff Sorenson, 7-1)) who was an impressive 1:51.4 winner last out and Max Walton and Greg Papaleo’s Mustang Art (post position seven, Sean Bier, James Mc Guire, 20-1 )seems to fit this class well.

Post time for the 15-race program is 4:30 p.m. In addition, two $20,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) second leg preliminaries are on the pre-race non wagering card.
