Former Thoroughbred trainer Michael Tannuzzo sentenced to 27 months

Columbus, OH — According to a story on bloodhorse.com Monday (Nov. 22), “Former Thoroughbred trainer Michael Tannuzzo was reportedly sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for doping race horses.”

In the story, Dick Downey reports, “The sentencing followed Tannuzzo’s plea of guilty July 7 to one count of adulteration and misbranding of drugs that superseded his original indictment in U. S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. He is among more than two dozen persons indicted in New York in early 2020 on charges related to the doping of racehorses.

“A money judgment of $15,893, representing the value of forfeitable property, was entered against Tannuzzo as part of his sentence, which was pronounced by Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil.”
