Four scratches in Friday night’s Breeders Crown eliminations

Toronto, ON — There are four scratches from Friday night’s $20,000 Breeders Crown eliminations for freshman trotters and pacers at Woodbine Racetrack.

In race three, the sole elimination for 2-year-old trotting colts, Southern Cross, driven and trained by Ake Svanstedt, was scratched. With 12 entered originally, byes were offered to the highest money earners. The connections of Southwind Frank declined the bye, but Lagerfeld and Tony Soprano opted not to race in the elim. So the nine horse field will only eliminate one horse to create a field of 10 for next week’s $600,000 final.

The 2-year-old filly trot saw two scratches due to sickness: in race six, Ultimate Shopper, who missed chasing down division favorite Broadway Donna by a head in Lexington, will not race according to her trainer Anette Lorenzton, and in race eight, Miss Tezla, trained by Jimmy Takter, will not race.

In race 10, one of two freshman colt pace elims, JJ Flynn, trained by Chris Ryder, was also scratched sick.

Elimination winners get to draw for an inside post from 1-5.
