Francesco Zet impressive winner of the Swedish Hambletonian

At the Halmstad track in southern Sweden the Swedish Hambletonian for 4-year-old trotters was won Thursday (July 7) in impressive style by the Daniel Redén-trained Francesco Zet with Ôrjan Kihlström in the bike.

Francesco Zet was parked out on leading Iznogoud Am with Björn Goop the whole trip and looked tired going round the last bend. However, down the stretch Kihlström pulled the earplugs and Francesco Zet went easily by Iznogoud Am to win by 2 1/2 lengths in 1.51.4f – the second fastest win time in the race.

Francesco Zet got $115,000 dollars for the win and has now lifetime earnings of $915,000. He has raced 15 times and has 13 wins and one second-place finish.

Francesco Zet is Swedish-bred but has a North American pedigree. Francesco Zet is sired by Father Patrick and out of Shaqline, who is by Credit Winner. Shaqline took a mark of 1.55.1 and earned $151,004 before she was exported to Sweden.

Francesco Zet is her first foal.

The filly division, which raced for a purse for the winner of $75,000, was won by the Dutch trained-and-owned, but Italian-bred Chebba Mill with Robin Bakker, timed in 1.53.4f.
