Freehold raises more than $6,300 to support Ontario horsemen

from Freehold Raceway

Freehold, NJ — Freehold Raceway and the Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey announced that they raised more than $6,300 to support the horsemen that fell victim to the fire at Classy Lane Training Centre.

The devastating fire claimed the lives of more than 40 Standardbred racehorses. The six trainers housed in that barn lost all of their stable equipment in the fire.

Freehold Raceway and the SBOANJ joined forces on Jan. 18 to raise funds for this worthwhile cause. Many of the drivers and trainers donated their percentages from that day’s race card and sponsored races for the benefit of their fellow horsemen. Freehold Raceway and the SBOANJ made a contribution equaling the amount the horsemen raised.

Anyone interested in donating should mail checks payable to “Classy Lane Barn Fire” and mail to Central Ontario Standardbred Association, P.O. Box 297, Campbellville, ON L0P 1B0.
