Freshman colts & geldings in DSBF action Sunday at Dover

Dover, DE — Sonofa Sizzle, Dashboard and Smoking Joey won opening $20,000 legs of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) for 2-year-old pacers on Sunday, Nov. 23 at Dover Downs. Corey Callahan and Vic Kirby drove three winners each.

Sonofa Sizzle (1:53.3) dominated the first of three colt and gelding pace legs of the DSBF on Sunday at Dover Downs.

After an impressive qualifying win, Mike White’s Sonofa Sizzle dominated the first of three $20,000 colt and gelding paces. With Corey Callahan in the bike driving the first of his two DSBF winners, the Life Sizzles-JK Lady Like colt recorded a 1:53.3 victory. The colt is fresh from a second-place finish after sweeping both of his Harrington prelims last month. Roddy’s Hot Again (George Dennis) was second best with Rigged To Go (Ross Wolfenden) the show horse.

Callahan’s other DSBF win came driving Howard Taylor’s Smoking Joey home in 1:54.2. The Riggins-You Don’t Know Me gelding was followed by Tough Tinsel (Tony Morgan) and KJ Ben (Art Stafford Jr.).

Dashboard, trained by Rich Ringler for owners Joann King and Maria Ringler, was a 1:56.2 winner in the other $20,000 DSBF male pace. Trace Tetrick piloted the altered son of Rustler Hanover-Top Of The World besting Art Season (Allan Davis), and Da Chief (Callahan), second and third respectively.

The second DSBF leg for freshman male pacers is set for next Sunday. After two legs, the top eight point-getters meet in a $100,000 final on Dec. 7.

In addition to Callahan and Kirby with three wins, Trace Tetrick, Allan Davis and trainers Joe Hundertpfund and Doug Lewis haltered two winners each.

The DSBF filly pacers begin their two weeks of $20,000 preliminaries on Monday sharing the spotlight with an $18,000 Mares Open pace.

This week only, there is racing Monday through Wednesday beginning with a 4:30 p.m. post. There is no racing this Thursday, Thanksgiving Day and as usual no live racing Friday and Saturday. Sunday Racing starts at 5:30 p.m.

$100,000 DSBF frosh filly trot final on tap Monday

The Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) rinql for2-year-old filly trotters highlights racing on Monday, Nov. 24 at Dover Downs. Post time is 4:30 p.m.

Carlo Poliseno and Foulk Stables’ Penny Paratrooper, driven by Ross Wolfenden, is the only two-time preliminary winner with both in wire-to-wire style. The CR Commando filly has a four wins in five starts record. Last week Corey Callahan guided Leigh Raymer’s fast I Got Spunk to an impressive 2:01.1 victory by open lengths. Marvin Meyer owns two Super Punk contenders, Cuddle Punk, a homebred handled by Allan Davis and Spunky MLT, co-owned by David Meyer, with Tony Morgan, in the bike.

A Bib Roberts, Graham Grace and M&W Stables homebred, Callmemza, from their stallion Great George Two, piloted by Jonathan Roberts, has never been out-of-the-money in seven starts including three straight wins before consecutive second-place finishes in both DSBF prelims, must overcome starting from outside post eight. Meanwhile Rich Lombardo and MJ&M Stable’s My Fire Cloud Too and Vic Kirby drew the rail.

The other contenders are Charles Wimbrow and Jimmy Lunn’s Silence Is Bliss, a stunning winner in her first prelim for trainer-driver Robert White who raced outside most of the mile for a 2:01 score at 23-1 odds. Sparkle Pants, trained and driven by Eddie Dennis racing for Stephanie and Brian Cassell, completes the $100,000 field.

In the $20,000 consolation, Serendipity Stable’s Star Hit (Tony Morgan) and Scott Woogen’s Sign N Drive (Tim Tetrick) head an eight horse contest.

Also on the female dominated program are three DSBF 1st leg filly pace prelims. In the first $20,000 division, Tony Dinges’ Love Forbidden (Morgan) has two wins including the fastest in the field, a 1:55 performance three weeks ago. Breeder-owner Virginia Louthan’s Spin Vision (Wolfenden) drew post one while CTC Stable’s Riggins Route (Callahan) is a strong contender.

Joann King’s Purrfect Bags brings a gaudy five-for-five win mark in the second DSBF prelim. Totally Rusty (Tim Tetrick) has won five-of-six and $59,250 in the third DSBF $20,000 prelim.

The Tuesday card features a $100,000 DSBF 2-Year-Old Male Trotters Final and a $20,000 consolation.
