Columbus, OH — Five $40,000 Ohio Sires Stakes divisions of freshman pacing colts provided plenty of fireworks on a swelteringly hot and humid July 4 afternoon at Scioto Downs.

Rose Run Ulysses equaled the Scioto Downs track record for 2-year-old pacing colts by winning his $40,000 Ohio Sires Stakes test in 1:52.2.

Tops in the OSS quintet was the Kimberly Dailey-trained Rose Run Ulysses, a striking chestnut son of Western Vintage, who paced to a winning 1:52.2 — equaling the Scioto Downs track record for 2-year-old pacing colts — in the fourth and fastest of all OSS divisions.

Danny Noble was in the sulky for Dailey, who co-owns the Rose Run Farm-bred gelding along with Carl and Melanie Atley. Rose Run Ulysses, sent off at 7-2, was given a perfect steer by Noble, who utilized a :27.3 final brush to prevail over even money rival Rock Candy (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) by three-quarters of a length. Cameron McCown piloted 5-2 Dislocator to a third-place effort.

Rose Run Ulysses is the sixth foal out of Alcyon Semalu p,3,1:56.2 ($37,802) and is a half-brother to Style Semalu (by Million Dollar Cam) p,1:51s ($436,003).

Gold Digger King captured the first OSS division handily in 1:52.4 with Kayne Kauffman at the lines for trainer Scott Mogan and owner Linda Van Camp. The homebred Pet Rock gelding was the public’s 5-2 choice in the field of nine 2-year-olds, pacing solidly to hold off 5-2 rival Valparaiso Hanover (Tyler Smith) by 1-3/4 lengths at the wire. Easeondowntheroad, a 21-1 longshot, finished third for Danny Noble. Gold Digger King is the first foal out of the Panspacificflight mare Hope For Pot Gold p,3,1:54s ($67,056).

High On Paydaze and driver Ronnie Wrenn Jr. came flying up the stretch in the final yards to best the leading 4-1 Black Smile (Chris Page) by a whisker in a dramatic 1:53.1 finish in the second OSS division. Trained by Brian Brown for breeder Scott Hagemeyer and partners Robert Mondillo and Donald Robinson, the Nob Hill High colt was sent off at odds of 8-1 in his pari-mutuel debut. Tyler Smith guided 2-1 Tanner J to third-place honors.

High On Paydaze is the fourth foal out of The Panderosa mare Myell p,4,1:56.1h ($34,688), making him a half-brother to Myell’s Rockstar (by World of Rocknroll) p,4,1:52.1f ($129,326).

Driver Anthony MacDonald steered See You In Tuscany to a near-perfect, 1:53 winning clocking in the third OSS test. Trained by Jason McGinnis, this freshman son of We Will See finished 3-1/4 lengths ahead of 8-5 Bombay Hanover (Danny Noble) at odds of 2-1 at the wire, with 5-2 Odds On Columbus (Peter Wrenn) notching third-place money in a photo finish. See You In Tuscany — who races clean-legged except for a pair of knee boots — was bred by Mark Marroletti and is owned by Thestable Tuscany Group.

A $10,000 yearling purchase at the Buckeye Classic Sale last fall, See You In Tuscany is out of the McArdle mare Mcdance Desire p,2,1:55 ($22,457).

In the final OSS division, it was the Dustin Arledge-trained Authentic Hanover and driver Tyler Smith taking home first prize among ten combatants. The Western Vintage colt’s pedigree prevailed as he stormed to a 1:53.3 clocking easily at odds of 2-1. Tony Too Tall, a 10-1 shot, was second for Chris Page, while 9-2 Seattle Hanover was third with Mike Wilder in the sulky.

Dustin Arledge, Hutchison Harness and Mary Thompson own Authentic Hanover, the tenth foal out of the world champion Artsplace mare Armbro Amoretto p,3,1:50.1 ($1,285,744), making him a half-brother to Bet You (by Bettor’s Delight) p,4,1:50.3f ($391,452); Adams Hanover (by Western Hanover) p,4,1:50.4f ($202,374); Air Guitar Hanover (by Rocknroll Hanover) p,1:52.2f ($182,470); and Aldine Hanover (by A Rocknroll Dance) p,2,1:52.1s ($121,806). An $18,000 yearling purchase, Authentic Hanover was bred by Hanover Shoe Farms.
