Freshman filly trotters to begin careers at Buffalo

Hamburg, NY — The 2-year-old filly trotters arrive at Buffalo Raceway on Wednesday night (June 26) for the New York Sire Stakes and for most of the entrants, it’s the first time they’ll face the starting gate with money on the line.

With 26 freshmen entered in the four divisions, only four have had a pari-mutuel start. The ladies will be searching for their maiden victory and a nice paycheck that goes along with it in the first start of their careers.

The sires of the damsels will be looking for bragging rights as well as Conway Hall and Chapter Seven each have seven offspring entered.

While they may be short on experience, there’s a few that were big purchases last year at both the Lexington and Harrisburg sales.

Leading the way in the $26,000 first division is Rasta Blue Chip (Here Comes Herbie-Winning Jonlin). The Gareth Dowse trainee was a $30,000 purchase at Lexington and the 3-1 morning line choice drew the four post with Jim Morrill Jr. in the bike.

The remainder of the field includes Starrystarrynight (Scott Zeron), Sorprese (Dan Daley), Seeking Royalty (John Calabrese), Bradylicious (Tyler Buter) and C Me Hyde (Phil Fluet).

The $26,000 second bracket will feature the 2-1 pick in Charlotte Chaplin (Chapter Seven-Anklets Aweigh). She was a $65,000 buy at the Harrisburg sale and will score from the rail for driver Scott Zeron.

Others involved include Tipsy Gypsy (Buter), Forever N Ever K (Charlie Norris), Tapupu (Fluet), Hushabye (Morrill Jr.) and Seducedbycredit (Ray Fisher Jr.).

The $26,500 third division, scheduled as the sixth race, has a couple of high priced sidewinders. Love A Good Story (Chapter Seven-Celebrity Lovin) was sold for $90,000 at the Lexington sale and gets the six post. Andy Miller will guide her for trainer Julie Miller.

Reciprocalbluechip (Chapter Seven-Fraction) went for $65,000 at Lexington and will fire off the gate from the four spot for driver/trainer Norris.

The division will also feature Without A Warning (Zeron), Evanna (Drew Monti), Askmenoquestions (Fluet), Destined To Dream (Morrill Jr.) and Smooth Affair (Buter).

The $26,500 last division, set for the eighth race, has Illdoitmyself (Chapter Seven-Dornello) as the 3-1 choice beginning from the two hole for Zeron. Trained by Rick Zeron, Illdoitmyself made up 15 lengths with a quarter-mile to go in a qualifier at Pocono on June 12 and captured in the victory by three-quarters of a length in 1:58.4.

Other involved will be Lady Jeter (Daley), Dw’s Aubrey (Morrill Jr.), Mama’s Gift (Jimmy Whittemore), Tupelo Honey (Ed Lohmeyer), Really Blue Chip (Anthony MacDonald) and Sweet Sofie T (Norris).

The track record for the 2-year-old trotting fillies is 1:59 set by Amal Hall last season. Ironically, Amal Hall tied the 3-year-old distaff trotting mark on Sunday with a 1:57 in an Excelsior A race.

The 13-race program begins at 5 p.m. and will also feature a pair of $15,000 Excelsior A events and one $6,800 Excelsior B race.
