Friday Night GSY Series Recap from the Meadowlands

East Rutherford, NJ – There were four GSY Series races Friday (Nov. 5) night at the Meadowlands, with three amateur pace races and one amateur trot. In the first race on the card, 10 pacers went to post and after a scramble for the lead, Mr D’s Dragon (Jacob Stillwell) took the lead which took a toll on him after a fast opening quarter and half mile(:27/:55.4). He was able to maintain that lead to the three-quarter pole but that is when the closers came calling. Notabadgame (Anthony Verruso) went three-wide as the field entered the stretch and cleared to the lead and was able to hold on to a 1-1/4 length victory. Rock To Glory (Bruno Chiodo) closed hard to finish second and coming from dead last after an early break, Outrageous Story (Michael Russo) rounded out the trifecta. The mile went in 1:54.2.

The 6-year-old gelding is out of the mare Noshameinmygame and is sired by Badlands Hanover. The horse is owned by P T Stable out of NJ and trained by Symon Spicer. It was Verruso’s 100th win of his amateur career and he had his wife and daughter in the winner’s circle after the race to take the win photo.

In the third race on the card, it featured eight trotters that went to post. Fiji (Robert Krivelin) went for the early lead and took the field by the quarter and half, while setting some sensible fractions (:28.2/:57.4). He was quickly overtaken by Slated To Win (Anthony Verruso), who made a bold brush to the lead before the three-quarter pole and ended up winning by over five lengths. It was his second win of the night and he trotted the mile in 1:56.2. Scirocco Patrick (Mark Silva) closed to finish second while Thisisshe (Tony Beltrami) finished third. The 5-year-old gelding is out of the mare Slated For Success and is sired by Uncle Peter. He is owned by George Beck out of New Jersey and is trained by Symon Spicer, who also picked up his second win of the night.

The fifth race on the card featured 10 pacers going to post and Kingofthejungle (David Glasser) left hard from his nine-hole post and took the lead after a swift first quarter in :27.2. He was able to maintain control until Bank Sea (Juan Cano) popped the pocket just before the half (:56.2) and cleared to the lead before the field turned for home. This proved to be the winning move as he opened up in the stretch and won by three lengths in a mile timed in 1:53.3. Glasser was able to hold second a nose ahead of Father Sarducci. The 8-year-old gelding is owned, trained and driven by Cano out of New Jersey.

The seventh and final amateur race on the card had 10 pacers go to post in this open GSY amateur race. Luck N Roll K (Tony Beltrami) left hard from his outside post and took the lead going into the first turn. He did pay a price as he set some very fast fractions for the first half mile (:27.1) and this took its toll on him late in the race. After he looked to settle down his pacer after the fast quarter, he was challenged by Thespywholovedme (Juan Cano), who pulled from the three hole and tried to make a brush to the lead. He was rebuffed by Beltrami, who turned for home and looked to open up a couple of lengths on the field. His strides shortened right before the wire, where he was collared by longshot, Ideal Flip (Robert Hechkoff), who won by a head at odds of 55-1. Macintosh N (Jonathan Ahle) got up for second and Beltrami hung on for the show dough. The winner paid $120.80 for his backers for a $2 win bet. The mile went in 1:52.3. The 6-year-old gelding is out of the mare Flip For Love and is sired by Western Ideal. He is owned by Hechkoff (R.B.H. Ventures Inc.) out of New York and is trained by Vincent Stallworth.

The amateur pacers and trotters will be back at the Meadowlands next Friday (Nov. 12) night at the Meadowlands with the first post scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
