Friends of Maryland Standardbreds will be showcasing the breed this weekend at the 19th annual Maryland Horse World Expo.

The event, which is held at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Md., runs Friday through Sunday (Jan. 16-18) and features an array of horse related demonstrations and activities.

Volunteers with Friends of Maryland Standardbreds will have a booth highlighting harness racing in the Free State and will give attendees the chance to see retired Standardbred Quantum Natasha show off her under saddle skills for 8-year-old Grace Robinson and instructor Julia Jesu.

Rider Melinda Giroso will also be present to talk to fans about the increasingly popular Racing Under Saddle program for Standardbreds.

Friends of Maryland Standardbreds’ equine ambassadors will be participating in the Parade of Breeds Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

FOMS founder Clarissa Coughlin says she’ll be working to promote interest in Maryland racing by sharing information about the Harness Horse Youth Foundation camp to be held at Ocean Downs and the state’s Racing Under Saddle opportunities.

“We’re looking forward to promoting the sport and the versatility of the breed to the broader horse community,” Coughlin said.
