Ft Apache Hanover, 20, dies

Martinsville, IL — Ft Apache Hanover, p,2,1:52.4s; 4,1:52.2s ($300,887), was euthanized on Dec. 23, 2016, at age 20 due to the infirmities of old age.

Ft Apache Hanover is a son of Western Hanover-French Dressing. His dam is a half-sister to world champion French Chef and earned $283,142 on the racetrack.

Ft Apache Hanover stood his entire career at the Wilson Farm in Martinsville, Ill. Founded by Dr. Diana Wilson and her late husband Tim, the farm is currently owned, as was Ft Apache Hanover, by Dr. Wilson.

The horse was a half-brother to Freedom Hanover (Rustler Hanover, $443,098), Fionavar Hanover (The Panderosa, $364,883) and Filippo Hanover (Arturo, $126,474).

The stallion raced in the same crop as Badlands Hanover (Western Hanover, $754,772) and Island Fantasy (Life Sign, $1.37 million, Dan Patch and O’Brien Award winner) and was a closing third in the world record Breeders Crown won by Badlands Hanover in 1:50 at Colonial Downs. Ft Apache Hanover was timed in 1:50.2.

At age two, Ft Apache Hanover won a Nassagaweya Stakes division and the Abe Lincoln Stake. He was also second in a Champlain Stakes division and his Governor’s Cup elimination. As a 3-year-old, he was second in the Nat Christie Memorial.

Ft Apache Hanover fit the Illinois program, siring a number a state champions. He also produced four horses that went in 1:50 or faster and nine horses that earned more than $300,000, one of which is Fort Silky p,1:49.3 ($809,324) who is still racing.

Notably successful as a broodmare sire, a Ft Apache Hanover mare, Cuzurinittowinit, is the dam of current standout mare Inittowinafortune (Cam’s Fortune, p,1:49.3, $637,097).
