Gary E. Jackett, 71, dies

Batavia, NY — Gary E. Jackett, 71, of Batavia, a horse trainer with the Batavia Downs Horsemen’s Association, in Batavia and Hamburg, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Rochester General Hospital.

Mr. Jackett was born January 29, 1944 in Batavia, a son of the late Willis and Bertha (Alquist) Jackett.

He was a member of Batavia Downs Horsemen’s Association for over 30 years, and was a certified locksmith for over 40 years.

He is predeceased by his first wife Edna M. (Myers) Jackett who died November 11, 1991 and his second wife Ann Hahn.

Survivors include three daughters, Irene M. (Glenn) Price, of Batavia, Gail Grandy of Batavia and Robin L. (Daniel) Thompson of Pineville, LA; a sister, Marilyn (Norman) Dusen of Pembroke, four sisters-in-law, Shirley Jackett of Hornell, Carol Bennett of Batavia, Mary Draper of Lyndonville and Frances Mascot of PA; eight granddaughters, one grandson, three great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Gary E. Jackett, Jr. and brother of the late Kenneth Jackett.

Friends may call on Saturday, (Jan. 9) from 10 to 12 p.m. at Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 E. Main St., Batavia, NY., where services will immediately follow at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Elba.
