Gerald Gervanis, 57, dies

Columbus, OH — Gerald “Jerry” Gervanis, 57, died June 22, 2011, in Lake Worth, Fla.

Mr. Gervanis was raised in Pennsylvania and worked with harness horses nearly his entire life. He excelled in nearly every facet of backstretch work, including training, caretaking and track maintenance.

A large part of his career was spent with the Norman Dauplaise stable in the late 1970s and 1980s. His favorite horse was Mickie Rodney, a Free For All star on the metropolitan New York circuit for many years.
