American JJ (Michael Miller) led to the quarter in :27.4 before Gettin Serious ($4.10) took control on the backstretch and led to the half in :56.3. Five Towns (Howard Parker) tried to apply first-over pressure on the far turn, but Gettin Serious held his ground to three-quarters in 1:25.2.

As they turned for home, Gettin Serious found another gear and won easily in 1:55.1. Sweet Royalty (Jimmy Whittemore) showed late trot and came up to finish second, while Five Towns had to settle for third.

Gettin Serious, a 4-year-old son of Crazed, is owned by his trainer and driver, Roman Lopez, in partnership with Mitchell Frair. It was his second win of 2020 and the ninth of his career.

Howard Parker drove four winners on the night, while Leon Bailey steered three to the winner’s circle.

Live racing returns to Vernon Downs on Saturday (July 4) starting at 1:10 p.m. The “Miracle Mile” will feature the Empire Breeders Classic for trotters with over $400,000 in combined purses, as well as two New York Sire Stakes events for freshman pacing fillies.
