Gisser’s Picks: August 1 Nfld

by Keith Gisser

Keith Gisser offers his picks for the $10,000 Pick-4 at Northfield Park on August 1, part of the USTA Strategic Wagering program.

Northfield Park Pick-4, Races 8-11, Monday, August 1, 2011

There is a $10,000 Guaranteed Pick-4 with a 14 percent takeout on races 8-11 Monday.

On Wednesday (July 27), a horse I pick week in-week out, I’ve Got Life, finally won and cost me a $2 Pick-4, due to some scratches, that would have returned $181.40. Not a huge number, but frustrating because I finally said, “the old horse refuses to win.” Apparently that is the reverse of the Giss of Death? The Jaws of Life?

$1 play: 2369/35/12467/2 = $40

Analysis:

Race 8: The two streaking horses, (2) Fox Valley Flyby and (3) Jl Nate The Great appear very good, but (6) Go Cowboy Go is racing well and won last time at this level. I don’t really like (9) Extremely Fast’s form, but I have to use him as the ML choice with massive class relief.

Race 9: Tempted to single (3) Man I’m Good, but any horse named after an alligator poacher, even a fictional one, gets my attention so we use (5) Amos Moses as well.

Race 10: (6) The Long Goodbye is the logical choice, but hasn’t won in awhile, so we will go deep here. Lots of question and “what if” scenarios.

Race 11: (2) Westedge Matt is very professional, very sharp and draws well. I think he wins easily and we will single him.
