GLADA amateurs tune up for final races

by Patricia Miller, for the Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association

Hazel Park, MI — August dog days mean only a short time remains until the Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association crowns the season’s champion. A strong field of eight drivers is ready to roll on Saturday (Aug. 10) in race six, the amateur trot at Hazel Park.

Previous winner Joe Cirasuola drew the lucky one hole and will drive his own Ericskarri. Next out is Jerry Mihelich driving the June Du Russel trainee Centre County and Jeff Pickvet is up behind his own Rock N Martina from the three hole. Larry Steenbergen will handle the George Ursitti trainee Future Past from the four position. Hay Look Out, trained by Robert Miller, will have Patricia Miller in the sulky leaving from the five hole, and frequent winner Smokin Steven, trained by John Bangert, will race out of the six with Mike Mitchell at the wheel. Club president Steve Oldford drives his own Garbarino from seven, and out in the cool, dry Michigan air will be the last GLADA race winner Kelly Walker, behind the Terry Tomlin trainee Love Ignites.

Be sure to catch the excitement and action of the GLADA club members as each one tries to build their points and win the race for themselves or the trainers who graciously put their horses in for the amateurs to drive.

Thanks to the continued efforts of Ladd Biro, Hazel Park race secretary, the GLADA club has put on a real summer-long show for the fans and provided fun and excitement for the drivers and their supporters.
