Gocciadoro puts on a show in Gran Premio Orsi Mangelli

Turin, ITL — The Italian trainer/driver Alessandro Gocciadoro had a banner day at the Vinovi track in Turin Friday afternoon, (Nov. 1) as horses from his stable dominated the prestigious Gran Premio Orsi Mangelli – one of the biggest international stake races in Europe for 3-year old trotters.

Orsi Mangelli was raced with two eliminations and a final and Gocciadoro-trained horses were first and second in as well the two eliminations as the final.

In the first elimination German-bred Juan Bros with Pietro Gubellini won followed by Aramis Ek with Gocciadoro – the winning time was 1:57 and the second elimination was won by Amon You Sm with Anthony Greppi followed by Axl Rose with Alessandro Gocciadoro – the winning time 1:55.4.

Alessandro Gocciadoro had no less than five trotters qualified for the final – he opted to drive the chestnut Axl Rose and that turned out to be a good choice.

But it was a close race and Axl Rose just managed to hold of a late charge from stablemate Amon You SM – both timed in 1:54.4, which is a new record for the race.

Both Axl Rose and Amon You SM is sired by the French sire, Love You.

The purse for the winner in the final was $150,000.

The filly division was also won by a trotter sired by a French stallion.  Arnas Cam – by Ready Cash, trained by Erik Bondo and with Santo Mollo in the bike was a very easy winner in 1:57.1. The purse for the winner was $41,000.
