Golf outing to kick-off Grand Circuit meeting at Historic Track

by John Manzi, for Historic Track

Goshen, NY — During early July, Goshen’s Historic Track will have its 99th year of Grand Circuit Racing. Beginning Wednesday, July 1 and continuing through Sunday, July 5 there will be five consecutive race cards at “the Cradle of the Trotter” culminating with the Hall of Fame Banquet on the lawn at the Harness Racing Museum in “Trot Town USA.”

However, on Monday, June 29, in an effort to raise funds for the not-for-profit organization, the inaugural Goshen Historic Track golf outing will be presented over the outstanding Otterkill Country Club course in nearby Campbell Hall, N.Y., just minutes from Goshen proper.

A cost of $200 per player — or $800 per foursome — will entitle players to golf, a golf cart, appreciation gifts, lunch, dinner and great prizes.

Lunch will be at 12:00 noon with a shot-gun tee-off at 1:00 p.m. and the field will be limited to the first 20 foursomes signing-up.

“We have a wonderful day of golf and camaraderie planned,” noted Historic Track Board Member Frank Baldassare, also of Deweycheatumnhowe fame, who is spearheading the effort to produce a golf outing which he and the entire Board hope will raise needed funds for the National Historic Landmark.

“If you never have played Otterkill Country Club you will be pleasantly surprised as to what a great course it is,” Baldassare said. “From the back tees it plays 6,860 yards with water hazards gently changing elevations. Par for the course is 72.”

Baldassare notes that tee sponsorships are also available for $100.

The Otterkill Golf Club is only 60 minutes from the George Washington Bridge and just 15 minutes from the Harriman Toll Plaza (Exit 16) off the New York State Throughway.

To sign up for the Golf outing, or for tee sponsorships or further information, please call Historic Track at (845) 294-5333.

The outing is open to both men and women.
