Goo Goo Doll lowers Maryland stakes record

Berlin, MD — Ocean Downs hosted a second night of Maryland Standardbred Fund stakes for Maryland-foaled 2-year-olds on Friday (Aug. 21).

Freshman trotting fillies opened the card, going for a purse of $17,250.

Russell Foster sent Goo Doo Doll (Googoo Gaagaa) to the engine in a perfectly rated gate-to-wire 1:59.1 mile which lowered the stakes record by a full second and bested Lookie Lookie (Lockeeper) by 20 lengths. Frank Canzone recently purchased the Richard Hans-bred Goo Doo Doll, and Edwin Gannon Jr. is the new trainer.

The $20,375 race for pacing colts and geldings went to post as race five.

Carrythetorchman (American Ideal) and driver Atlee Bender scored a 1:56 victory, pacing a :27.4 last quarter over the half-mile oval to defeat KO Master (Rusty’s For Real). Erv Miller trains for owners Ronald Michelon and War Horse Stables.
