Grand Circuit action continues at Hawthorne

Hawthorne Racecourse press release

Nine freshman gals lined up behind Mike Pernice’s starting gate for Hawthorne’s opener, the $45,000 World Series Stake. The Shawn Nessa entry of Condi and Whisky Girl took plenty of heat as they went postward as the overwhelming 2-5 favorite and there was little trepidation for the chalk players as Todd Warren left hard with Whisky Girl and Condi and Mike Oosting dropped in second. The pair raced 1-2 throughout the entire mile and the pair turned for home 5 lengths in front of the rest of the field. Down the lane, Condi wore down Whisky Girl to earn a 3 length victory in 1:56.4 over her stablemate, while Chinatown K rallied to earn third money.

In the first division of the of the World Series Stake for sophomore pacing fillies, Free came first-over to wear down pace-setting Sherri On Ice to register a ¾ length victory in the $33,000 stake. Sherri On Ice went right to the top for driver Tim Tetrick as Sam Widger sat comfortably in third with Free. Just past the half Widger made his move with the Armbro Mackintosh filly and the Stan Miller trainee responded for the 1:53.1 score. Ultimate Bet rallied to grab second, while Bare Legs came on late to finish third.

Sherri On Ice faded to fourth. It was a marvelous Hawthorne meet for Free as she was victorious in both the World Series Stake and the Plum Peachy Stake Final on the Night Of Champions.

Gro assumed command just past the quarter in division two and that was the winning move as the Pro Bono Best filly went on to score a 2 length victory in 1:54.

Yoko Hall left quickly from the gate and took control early as Tim Tetrick sat chilly in third with the 7-5 favorite Gro. As the field moved up the backstretch, Gro was on the move and the Roger Welch trainee never looked back to earn the major portion of the $33,000 purse. Yoko Hall raced well to hold on to second, while Otherpeoplesmoney rallied late to finish third.

Hawthorne’s spring 2006 Standardbred meet runs May 6 through June 17 with live racing six days per week – Tuesday through Sunday. Post time is 7:20 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
