Grand Circuit Report: October 17, 2012

by Paul Ramlow, Grand Circuit Publicity Director

This Week: Breeders Crown eliminations, Woodbine Racetrack, Toronto, Ontario.

Schedule of events: Grand Circuit action begins on Friday (Oct. 19) as four freshman Breeders Crown eliminations are carded at Woodbine Racetrack to get the 10 finalists for the $600,000 2-year-old finals on Saturday (Oct. 27). With 14 entered in the 2-year-old colt pace, two seven-horse eliminations will go to post with the first five finishers in each advancing to the final. Twelve freshman colt trotters necessitated two byes and a 10-horse elimination to qualify eight for the final. The 2-year-old Breeders Crown filly pace drew 13, so one elimination of 10 is needed as three fillies got byes and three will be eliminated.

A pair of Breeders Crown eliminations will be held on Saturday (Oct. 20) for each of three classes for sophomores — the filly pacers, colt trotters and colt pacers. The first five finishers from each will advance to the final. Among the older set, only one division — the mare trotters — needed a single elimination on Saturday to get to a 10-horse final on Oct. 27. The first seven finishers from the elimination will advance to the final, to join three mares that got byes.
