Grand Circuit Report: Week of July 18, 2010

This Week: Delvin Miller Adios eliminations, The Meadows, Washington, Pennsylvania

Schedule of events: Grand Circuit week at The Meadows begins on Saturday, July 24, with $50,000 eliminations for the Delvin Miller Adios for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers. The balance of the Grand Circuit action at The Meadows takes place next week.

Last time: Driver Jim Morrill, Jr. continued his hot hand in the recently concluded Grand Circuit stop at Tioga Downs. After piloting a pair of winners in the W.N. Reynolds Memorial stakes divisions at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs earlier this month, Morrill added eight more victories in Tompkins-Geers action at Tioga Downs.

Morrill found his way to victory lane in a trio of divisions in the 2-year-old filly pace, scoring with Drop The Ball and Southwind Jazmin in $21,061 purse races and See You At Peelers in a $20,561 split. He also won a pair of $23,127 divisions of the 2-year-old filly trot behind No More Credit and Refuse To Lose. His other victories came with Galimony ($62,107 3-year-old filly pace), Jetblue Volo ($40,804 3-year-old colt trot division) and Jettalady ($26,369 3-year-old filly trot division).

Grand Circuit Driving Standings: Jim Morrill, Jr. has taken over the lead in the Grand Circuit driving standings with 10 winners so far in 2010. David Miller checks in second with eight triumphs. Ron Pierce, Ray Schnittker and Tim Tetrick are tied for third place with five wins apiece. Mike Lachance and Brian Sears share sixth place, each with four victories. Jason Bartlett, Matt Kakaley, George Napolitano, Jr. and Brandon Simpson are tied for eighth place, each with three winners.

Looking ahead: The Grand Circuit remains at The Meadows next week with a full slate of racing action, including the $600,000 (est.) Adios final, slated for Saturday, July 31. Also on tap will be the Adioo Volo for 3-year-old filly pacers and six Arden Downs events, for sophomore trotters and freshman pacers and trotters.
