Grand Circuit Report: Week of July 3, 2011

This Week: W. N. Reynolds Memorial, Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania

Schedule of events: Reynolds Memorial action at Pocono begins on Tuesday (July 5) with five divisions in the $100,655 2-year-old colt trot and three splits in the $65,901 3-year-old filly pace. Featured on the Wednesday (July 6) card will be eight divisions in the $160,952 2-year-old filly trot. The Friday (July 8) card offers the $125,000 (est.) 2-year-old filly pace. The Saturday (July 9) program will feature the $75,000 (est.) 3-year-old colt trot and the $75,000 (est.) 3-year-old colt pace. The $125,000 (est.) 2-year-old colt pace and the $75,000 (est.) 3-year-old filly trot will conclude the festivities on Tuesday (July 12).

Last time: Ray Schnittker drove four Landmark Stakes winners, all from his own stable, at Goshen, scoring with All In Tad ($20,458 3-year-old colt trot), Borrow And Spend ($8,990 2-year-old filly trot), Hayworth Blue Chip ($4,945 2-year-old filly pace division) and Bijou Theater ($4,945 2-year-old filly pace division). Schnittker also trained a fifth winner, as Brigadier won the $12,640 2-year-old colt trot with Gareth Dowse in the sulky.

Jason Bartlett had a trio of Landmark winners, all for trainer Linda Toscano, piloting JK Camelot in the $26,308 3-year-old colt pace, Artillery Major in an $8,120 2-year-old colt pace division and JK Panache in a $7,820 2-year-old colt pace division.

Grand Circuit Driving Standings: Ray Schnittker is in first place in the Grand Circuit driving standings with four wins. Jason Bartlett is in second place with three victories. Gareth Dowse, Eric Goodell, Angus MacDonald, Cat Manzi, David Miller, Charlie Norris and Jim Taggart, Jr share third place, each with one victory in 2011.

Looking ahead: The Grand Circuit heads to Tioga Downs for racing action next weekend. Tioga will offer the Tompkins-Geers Stakes for 2- and 3-year-olds of both sexes and gaits beginning on Thursday, July 14.
