Grand Circuit Report: Week of May 29, 2011

by Paul Ramlow, Grand Circuit Publicity Director

This Week: The Grand Circuit is off this week. Racing action will resume in early July at Goshen Historic Track with the Landmark Stakes.

Last time: Hoosier Park hosted the Grand Circuit this past week, with the featured event being the $200,000 Dan Patch for free for all pacers.

Giddy Up Lucky won the Dan Patch by 1-1/4 lengths over Vintage Master in 1:50.1. Golden Receiver was third. Eric Goodell drove Giddy Up Lucky, the favorite, for trainer Josh Green and owners Baron Racing Stable and VIP Internet Stable.

“The race worked out as well as I could hope,” said Goodell. “This horse really tries hard. He’s a class horse and has a lot of speed. When I tipped him to the outside, he was in good striking position. They came back on him and he picked it up in the end. He’s a long horse and a half-mile track does him no justice.”

Giddy Up Lucky became the sport’s newest millionaire with the win in the Dan Patch. He now has 36 career wins and earnings of $1,000,875.

Grand Circuit Driving Standings: Four drivers share the early Grand Circuit lead, each with one winning drive. The four are Eric Goodell, Cat Manzi, David Miller, and Charlie Norris.

Looking ahead: The Grand Circuit will be off until early July, with the next stop taking place at Historic Track in Goshen, New York. The featured events will be eight Landmark Stakes for 2- and 3-year-olds of both sexes and gaits.
