Grand Circuit Report: Week of October 16, 2011

This Week: Breeders Crown eliminations, Woodbine Racetrack, Toronto, Ontario

Schedule of events: Grand Circuit action begins on Friday (Oct. 21) as the 2-year-olds of both sexes and gaits will compete in $25,000 Breeders Crown eliminations. The Saturday (Oct. 22) card will feature $25,000 Breeders Crown eliminations for both the 3-year-olds and older horses of both sexes and gaits. The entry box for the Breeders Crown eliminations will close on Tuesday (Oct. 18).

Last time: Brian Sears posted five winners during the second week of Grand Circuit racing at The Red Mile in Lexington.

Sears was triumphant behind Win Missy B in a $93,000 division of the International Stallion Stakes for 2-year-old filly trotters; Economy Terror and Rockaround Sue in $85,200 splits of the International Stallion Stakes for 2-year-old filly pacers; Escape The News in an $83,850 division of the International Stallion Stakes for 2-year-old colt pacers; and From Above in a $75,750 division of the International Stallion Stakes for 2-year-old colt trotters.

David Miller and Tim Tetrick each piloted four winners in Grand Circuit stakes during the week, while Dave Palone added three and Yannick Gingras, Jody Jamieson and Ron Pierce had two winners each.

Grand Circuit Driving Standings: David Miller has moved into the lead in the tight Grand Circuit driving standings with 26 victories. Dave Palone is now in second place with 25 triumphs. Tim Tetrick holds down third place with 24 winners. Ron Pierce is in fourth place with 16 victories. Yannick Gingras checks in fifth with 15 triumphs. Brian Sears has climbed into sixth place with 11 wins. Andy Miller and Ray Schnittker share seventh place, each with 10 scores. Jody Jamieson is in ninth place with eight victories. Brett Miller and Montrell Teague are tied for tenth place, each with seven wins.

Looking ahead: The Grand Circuit remains at Woodbine next week as all 12 Breeders Crown finals will be carded on Saturday, Oct. 29.
