Grand Circuit week opens Saturday at Pocono Downs

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Grand Circuit Week, featuring top drivers, trainers and outstanding young horses, will be making its annual stop at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs beginning on Saturday, July 5.

Opening day of the W.N. Reynolds Memorial Stake will see seven divisions for 2-year-old colt and gelding trotters and three divisions for 3-year-old pacing fillies. The freshman colt and gelding trotters will be vying for purses of $20,000 in each of the splits while the three divisions for the 3-year-old pacing fillies will have purses of $25,800-plus.

John Campbell’s big week at the Meadowlands has given him the lead in the Grand Circuit driving standings. He collected five wins while Ron Pierce stands in second place with four victories. Andy Miller and David Miller follow with three wins each with George Brennan next with two. Ryan Anderson, Yannick Gingras, Jeff Gregory, Cat Manzi, Ray Schnittker, Brian Sears, Steve Smith and Tim Tetrick each have a win.

Following Saturday’s action, more W.N. Reynolds Stake races for the freshman and sophomore pacers and trotters will be taking place next Monday, Tuesday and Friday afternoons at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.

Saul Needle, director of racing at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, has carded 16 races for the opening of Grand Circuit Week.

Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs will have a Fourth of July racing card on Friday. Post time is 2:00 p.m.
