GSY amateurs in Big M spotlight

East Rutherford, NJ — With temperatures in the mid-50s at post time, the racing action heated up Friday night (April 29) at The Meadowlands with four amateur races once again highlighting the card.

The first race on the card featured 10 pacers and when Big Bad Bill (Robert Hechkoff) set sail for the lead, he looked like he may go wire-to-wire. The vicious first half that went in :54.4 was what did him in. That set it up for all the closers to come calling and when the photo came up, it was Takeittotheface (David Yarock) who got up by a head over Watchmeneighneigh (Tony Beltrami). Causway (Mckenzie Sowers) rounded out the trifecta. The mile went in 1:54.3.

The winner is owned by Yarock and is trained by Symon Spicer.

The fifth race featured nine more pacers going to post. With several vying for the lead and after a swift quarter in :27.2, Ferdinand A (James Slendorn) relented the top spot to A B Collins (Joe Lee) and they went one-two all the way around the track, including into the stretch. Slendorn was able to get up by just over a length to win over the tiring leader in a mile timed in 1:54.2. Haymitch (Marianna Monaco) rounded out the trifecta.

The 9-year-old gelding Ferdinand A is owned by Slendorn and his trainer, Kelvin Harrison.

The amateurs were back in action for the eighth race on the card and after a tough first quarter to get the lead in :27.3, Camwood (Christopher Petrelli) held the top spot and wouldn’t let anyone else to the front. The :55.1 half-mile time was enough to do the leader in and set it up once again for the closers. Rockabilly Charm (Johnathan Ahle) wound up winning by 3-3/4 lengths over longshot Allgonowhoa (Lee) in a mile timed in 1:54.1. Hes Gone Badder (Anthony Verruso) rounded out the trifecta.

The winner is a 7-year-old gelding, owned and trained by Victoria D’Alessandro.

The tenth and final GSY amateur race on the card featured a few leavers, but after a fast :27.1 first quarter, Seeuinnashville (Lee) was able to ration out his speed enough to coast home a 2-3/4 length victor over pocket sitter Cheyenne Ryan Lee (Ahle). Captain’s Reign (Dakota Jackson) came from well back to finish third. The mile went in 1:53.1 for this mixed group of GSY 1-2.

The winner is an 8-year-old gelding, owned and trained by Carl Tirella.

The GSY amateurs will be back in action next Friday at The Meadowlands. The first post is scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
