GSY Recap from Friday Night at the Meadowlands

East Rutherford, NJ – With the Friday night (June 3) card brought beautiful 70+ degree temperatures and  three GSY races on the card.  There will be five races in total but the other two races wills be split up and on Saturday night’s (June 4) card.

The first race on the card featured only seven GSY 2 pacers and Mark Silva was on a mission from the start with Tuxedo Bay.  He went a decent :27.3 first quarter and with nobody trying to pull on him, he didn’t ration out his horses speed and went a :27 flat second quarter that proved to be the difference from him winning to him letting the closers catch him before the wire.

Silva and Tuxedo Bay ended up holding onto second but allowed Tj Blast (Anthony Verruso) to close from near the back of the pack to win by just over a length with Hurrikane Georgie (Peter Kleinhans) rounded out the trifecta.  The mile went in a superb 1:51.3.  The 9-year old gelding is owned by P T Stable from NJ and is trained by Symon Spicer.

The sixth race featured 10 pacers going to post and when Final Justice (Tony Beltrami) left from post eight to gain the lead easily, he looked in control and in contention for a victory.  He set reasonable enough fractions for this group but his strides shortened around the final turn and he was collared by pocket sitter Statesman N (Newton “Yogi” Sheridan).  Sheridan looked primed for a win but he tipped a bit early before the stretch run and that allowed the post-time favorite, Bilbo Hanover (David Glasser) to follow his cover and tip out and a stretch duel ensued with these two combatants.  Glasser was able to get the win in a photo by a nose over Sheridan and Beltrami held on for third.  The mile went in 1:53.3.

The 12-year old gelding is owned by Clifford Grundy from Florida and is trained by Mike Watson.

The ninth race on the card featured a full field of 10 pacers and after some urging to get the lead, post-time favorite Galactic Galleon N (Jonathan Ahle) took the lead and never looked back.  Pocket sitter Purple Sky (Tony Beltrami) looked like he was primed to have a good shot at the win but inexplicably pulled the pocket after the half, which allowed Kingofthejungle (David Glasser) to take his spot before his horse faded in the stretch.  It looked like the :26.4 quarter might have done Ahle in but he was able to slow his pacer down on the lead and wasn’t challenged until the deep stretch where he was able to hold onto a neck victory over Brush N Crush (Anthony Verruso), who finished second and after a big mid-race move.  Kingofthejungle(David Glasser) flattened out but still managed to hold onto the show dough.  The mile went in 1:52.4.  The 13-year-old gelding is owned by Shaun Vallee from NJ and is trained by Ahle himself.

The GSY series will have two more races Saturday night (June 4) at the Meadowlands.  The first post is scheduled for 6:20 p.m. at the Big M.
