Gu d’Heripre and Feerie Wood ready for the Prix d’Amerique

The 4-year-old Gu d’Heripre with Franck Nivard in the bike won the Criterium Continental and 5-year-old Feerie Wood with Alexandre Abrivard in the bike won the Prix Tenor de Baune at Vincennes Sunday afternoon (Dec. 27) and are now ready to race in the Prix d’Amerique.

Gu d’Heripre, a handsome chestnut trotter sired by the great Coktail Jet, once again proved that he is the best 4-year-old in France and won the Group 1 race Criterium Continental over the 1-5/16th mile distance easily in 1:54.1 (mile rate), followed by two other French trotters, Goldy Mary and Go On Boy. Fourth was USA-owned, but Swedish bred Aetos Kronos with Jean Michel Bazire after a very unlucky race.

Gu d’Heripre picked up a check for the winner of 94,000 Euro.

Feerie Wood, a 5-year-old mare who back in October won the European Championship for 5-year-olds, also won very easily after a good drive from Alexandre Abrivard.

Abrivard followed Jean Michel Bazire, who drove Feydeau Seven, when he decided to make his move with a half-mile to go. Down the stretch in the Prix Tenor de Baune (1-11/16th miles), Feerie Wood went around Feydeau Seven to win by two lengths, timed in 1:57.1 (mile rate).

The purse for the winner was $47,000.
