by Millard S. Beatty III, USHWA Keystone Chapter

The 2-year-old pacing filly Wicked Native won for the fourth time this season on the Pa. Fair Circuit at the Wattsburg Fair in Erie, Pa., on Wednesday, Sept. 1. But what made this race special is that Roger Hammer broke the $200,000 mark in Pa. Fair earnings by a driver.

This is the first time a driver on the Pa. Fair Circuit has reached that mark.

Hammer has $227,771.88 in earnings as of September 5. The previous mark was held by Stephen Schoeffel in 2008 with earnings of $197,794.94.

There are a total of five more Pa. Fairs and a one-day event at Amulet Farms in Westmoreland County on September 12.

The next Pa. Fair is Sunday, Sept. 6, at the Stoneboro Fair. The 2-year-olds will be facing each other on Sunday while the 3-year-olds clash on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7.

Here are the top five drivers on the Pa. Fair Circuit as of September 5, 2009.
