Hannah Miller captures GSY Amateur Series Trot final

by Matt Zuccarello, GSY Amateur Series reporter

East Rutherford, NJ — Another amateur trot series came to an end this Friday night (April 7) as eight trotters went to post in the fourth race on the card with a $10,000 purse up for grabs.

As is customary in most of the amateur events, there were several leavers vying for the top spot to control the pace. Windsun Fireball would not let anyone else to the top and tried to bottom out the field like he did two weeks ago and he did hold the lead until the top of the stretch. While Keystone Thomas, with Robert Hechkoff holding the lines, was parked on the outside trying to get the lead, this set the closers up nicely and they ended up picking up the top three spots.

Post time favorite Detroit Rapper, with Logan Powell in the sulky, pulled second-over and then three-wide around the final turn but right on his helmet in perfect striking position was Hannah Miller, aboard Two Hip Dip. She followed Powell all the way around the track and exploded three-wide in the stretch en route to an easy five-length victory. Anthony Ciuffetelli, driving Amalfi Coast, picked up the show dough from way back.

She was dismissed by the betting public, who sent her off 8-1 odds. Her backers were happy as she paid $19.20 for a $2 win bet.

This was her first time behind this 6 year-old gelding by Glidemaster. The race was timed in a modest 1:58.3. The winning owners of Two Hip Dip are Michael Marx Jr., David Singelyn, and Thunder Road Stable and Marx Jr. also trains the horse.

Next Friday night the amateur pacers go to post for the GSY Series and the C.K.G. Billings Series is in town with amateur trotters for their event. First post is 7:15pm.
