Hanners wins five at Freehold Saturday

Freehold, NJ — Luke Hanners had an afternoon to remember at Freehold Raceway on Saturday (Oct. 30), as he won five races on the 11-race card.

Hanners started the day on a winning note, as he teamed up with Izzy Estrada to win race one with pocket-sitting Rockin Indy. He picked up another win in race five, as Caviart Eden rallied late and pulled off the 9-1 upset for trainer Kelly Hastings.

In the sixth race, the Preferred Handicap Pace, Hanners won an exciting three-horse photo finish on 6-1 On Accident. He left from post position two, set the early fractions, and held off the late rallies of Reigning Deo and Albert A’Scootin for the win. Tim Lancaster trains the winner and co-owns with Tony Casha.

Hanners picked up his fourth win of the afternoon in race 10, when he guided So Take That to victory for trainer Alex Goldin. He had one shot at five wins, and he took full advantage, as he won the 11th race with Doc Halladay, as Estrada bookended the card.

Hanners’ big day gave him 44 wins on the calendar year at Freehold, tying him for sixth in the standings with Dan Dube. Since the start of the summer/fall meet on Aug. 27, Hanners has 21 wins, good for third place in the standings.

Live racing at Freehold resumes on Friday (Nov. 5), starting at about 12:30 p.m.
