EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – January 28, 2005 – Hanover Chance N [$21.60, $9.00, $5.20], driven by David Miller, scored a wire-to-wire victory in the fifth race, the $42,500 mares open pace, on Friday night at the Meadowlands.

Miller picked up his third winner from the first five races, guiding Hanover Chance in a well-rated mile in 1:55.2.

“Looking at the program, I didn’t think there would be much speed in the race,” said Miller. “But I didn’t think I’d get the first quarter in 29.4 and then the half in 59.2. After that, I knew a horse would have to put in quite a last quarter to beat her.”

Stonebridge Kisses [$2.80, $3.40] closed from last to finish second by nose. Maybe A Rita [$5.20] was third by neck.

Hanover Chance, a six-year-old daughter of Holmes Hanover, has now won three consecutive starts at the Meadowlands. She is trained by Nat Varty and owned by Barry Guariglia’s Black Horse Racing of Lebanon, New Jersey.
