Yonkers, NY — The Standardbred Owners Association of New York takes great pleasure in extending heartfelt birthday wishes to legendary Hall of Fame horseman Doug Ackerman.

At the young age of 85, Doug can look back with tremendous pride at a career dotted with significant achievements, both as a trainer and in the sulky.

Not the least of these triumphs was as the owner/trainer of Chocolatier who retired as the fastest 2-year-old of all time on a mile track (1:54.4). The son of Credit Winner was overwhelmingly voted the 2-year-old Colt Trotter of the Year, capturing both the Breeders Crown and the World Trotting Derby, with winnings of more than $1.3 million.

Another significant Ackerman achievement was in the successful tutoring of his son, Doug “D.R.” Ackerman, an accomplished and respected horseman in his own right.

To say that they don’t make gentlemen like Doug Ackerman anymore would be an understatement. Here’s hoping that Doug will continue to be the standard by which true horsemen should be measured for years to come.
