Hard-used Emerald’s Legacy draws off in Meadows top trot

Washington, PA — Parked the opening three-eighths, Emerald’s Legacy still had enough in the tank to draw off late and capture Thursday’s (Feb. 1) $19,200 Open Handicap Trot at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

With 2-5 favorite Tequila Talkin stalking from the pocket, it appeared that Emerald Legacy’s lead might be imperiled in the lane. But under Dave Palone’s urging, the 5-year-old Father Patrick-Devilish Emerald gelding widened his advantage, downing Tequila Talkin by 3-1/2 lengths in 1:54.2. Killer Instinct completed the ticket.

Scott Betts trains Emerald’s Legacy, who vaulted over $200,000 in career earnings, for Tim Betts, Nick Catalano, Keith Pippi and Shanamphilaniklou.

Brady Jenson scored a training/driving double on the 13-race card. Also collecting doubles were drivers Anthony MacDonald, Aaron Merriman, Ronnie Wrenn Jr. and Palone, and trainers Richard Perfido and Tim Twaddle.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Friday (Feb. 2), when the 15-race card features a $947.10 carryover in the early pentafecta (race four). First post is 12:45 p.m.
